Serve as a Community Educator

Community educators play an integral role in our students' educational experience, guiding and teaching students in perfecting skills in a real-world environment. Share your expertise and professional passion as a preceptor in one or more of our educational programs. Review our Community Educator Opportunities and let us know if you would like to help train the future of healthcare.

MD Community Educators must complete the process to become community faculty prior to volunteering as a preceptor.

Become a HOPES Volunteer Provider

In 2011, EVMS students recognized a need for healthcare within the uninsured population in Norfolk and responded by establishing the first student-run free clinic, HOPES (Health Outreach Partnership of EVMS Students), to improve quality of life in the community by providing primary and specialty medical care.

HOPES is the only free clinic in Norfolk and the first student-run free clinic in Virginia. It is staffed by volunteers, residents, physicians, and physician assistants across numerous specialties and EVMS students.

Alumni mentor and assist students in providing healthcare to HOPES patients in Norfolk and Portsmouth.

Help build the next class

Every year, thousands of students apply to EVMS, and alumni admissions interviewers play the critical role of serving as EVMS ambassadors. As an interviewer, you share your knowledge of your alma mater while allowing the student to share their story, putting a face to their application for the admissions team. Join us in helping to select the next class of EVMS alumni.

Student & Residency Connections

Each year our MD students match into top residency and fellowship programs around the country. Connect with students by welcoming them to your area over coffee, by touring your city or inviting them dinner. If you're interested in serving as a local alumni contact, we'd love to hear from you.

We're also looking for alumni interested in speaking with specialty-based student interest groups. Throughout the year, student organizations request alumni to participate in "Ask An Alum" events and share insights about their specialty and career path.
